Payout setup & verification

A plain, step-by-step walkthrough of Stripe's payout setup — what it asks for, roughly how long it takes, and what to do if it gets stuck.

Do you even need this?

Only if you're charging athletes. A free ($0) group needs none of this — set your group's price to $0 in Groups → Edit group, and athletes can join by code with nothing to verify. You can always add payouts later, whenever you actually want to charge. If that's you, you're done here.

What Stripe verification actually is

Payouts run through Stripe, the payment processor — MarkIT never sees your ID or your banking details; Stripe holds them directly. The verification step (banks call this “KYC,” know-your-customer) is a banking requirement every payment processor has to run, not something MarkIT is asking for on top. On the web

  1. 1. Settings → Billing.Find the Payouts card. If you've never set this up, the button says “Set up payouts”; if Stripe still needs something from you, it says “Finish payout setup” or “Continue verification.”
  2. 2. First time only — pick your country. You'll choose the country your bank is in (US or Canada right now). Stripe locks this permanently once you continue, so get it right the first time.
  3. 3. Continue to Stripe.You're redirected to Stripe's own hosted form. It asks for the basics — your legal name, date of birth, home address, and phone number — plus an identity check, which is either a quick photo/liveness check on your phone or uploading a photo ID, depending on what Stripe asks for in your case. Most coaches finish in a few minutes.
  4. 4. You can leave and come back.Closing the tab mid-flow doesn't lose your progress — reopening “Finish payout setup” picks up where you left off, not from scratch.
  5. 5. “Verifying with Stripe.” Once you've submitted everything, the Payouts card checks itself automatically for a few minutes and flips to “Payouts on” the moment Stripe confirms — no page refresh needed. If it's still checking after a while, a “Check again” button appears so you can force a fresh look.

On your phone

Same Stripe flow, opened in your phone's regular browser (Safari or Chrome) — not a screen inside the app. Find it under Profile → Payouts(“Connect Stripe, check status, get paid”). Tap through, and when you finish on Stripe's site you'll land back in the MarkIT app automatically. Everything above about the country pick, what Stripe asks for, and coming back mid-flow applies exactly the same.

During early access

While MarkIT is in early access, payments run in Stripe's test environment — nothing you enter is charged or real money. Verification can be completed with Stripe's own test details; if you're not sure what to enter, ask us and we'll walk you through it.

If something looks stuck

  • Stuck at verification: tap “Continue verification” again — Stripe usually just needs one more document (often a photo ID) and will tell you exactly what, right there on its own page.
  • Status not updating after you finish: give it a minute — the page checks itself automatically. If it's been a few minutes, tap “Check again”, or close and reopen the app/tab.
